LOTRO and radiance instances: Dr Jekyll becomes Mr Hyde
Berath: Before and After
The radiance instances in Mines of Moria have turned me into a monster. In Shadows over Angmar, I used to run instances for sheer fun. If we defeated a Boss mob…fantastic, and we could get some nice stuff perhaps. If not, well we could try again, and again, and again until bedtime. But nothing much lost. In MoM however, they have something called Hard Mode in the instances. You run an instance in Hard Mode, you reach the Boss mob, you make one mistake…and that’s it sunshine. No shinys for you. And here, shiny = gateway to Raiding. So Berath has become a shinys monster. She wants her crystal shiny (and she needs several) and her coin shiny to help her get her shiny radiance raiding armour.
Help, I’m becoming obsessed by phat lewt!!!!!! I must run those instances.
Before, it was a joy to introduce new people to an instance. Now, new people = might fail instance = no shiny = no raiding = continue to have to run instance again and again and again. An evening spent crafting, or frolicking on an alt or just running hither and thither questing was an evening well spent. Now it equals an evening wasted that should have been spent trying to get another crystal.
But yay…the end is in sight. I only have one crystal to get…perhaps Berath monster will slowly start to change back into Berath of dancing, flowers and small adoring animals. Already I have ventured a few times into the sunshine and yes, had fun! I’m getting excited over the thought of just doing stuff to help out..no other reason..no other pressure. I will beat the beast within!
And Turbine seem to have acknowledged the error of their ways. There is talk of new systems of radiance gathering that are more forgiving and allow people to run the instances they like rather than ones that they have to. Novel. I await developments with interest.
